Savin Network Faxing
This is a how-to showing how to set up a network fax. The fax shows up in the windows printer directory as a printer but allows you to send faxes from your desktop through the fax machine. This is much faster and more dependable than PC based fax software as most PC modems aren't true fax modems. Not only would you have to have a phone line to every PC on your network, your maximum speed is 14,400. Most faxes today support a maximum speed of 33,600. In addition many modems do not communicate properly with fax machines leading to error codes, dropped connections, and much frustration to the person on the other end.
Before you start you will need these things:
- Make sure your model supports network faxing
- The ip address of your MFP/Fax
- The network fax driver-This can be obtained here. Just browse to find your model.
- If you are running Windows 98 or ME you will need SmartDeviceMonitor for Client
- First Unpack the Driver
- When the driver is done downloading open up the zip file and save it to C:\temp\fax\
- Now add the printer
- Whichever Microsoft OS you have find your printers folder
- Click the Add Printer button
- Select Local Printer and Make sure that the Autodetect my Printer is Unchecked
- If you are already printing to this MFP or Fax select the existing port you are using
- If not you will need to add the port.
- Select New Port and (Win2k/XP) Standard TCP/IP Port or (Win98/ME) SmartDeviceMonitor Port
- Enter the IP Address of your MFP/Fax
- Select Next or OK
- If it found your MFP great! If it prompts you for the network card Select Ricoh Type C
- Select Finish
- Now select Browse
- Browse to the C:\temp\fax\disk1\ folder. You are looking for a file that ends in .inf
- When windows finds this click OK
- Name the printer a descriptive name like Savin Fax and click ok
- Don't share it and click ok
- You can print the test page if you want
- When it completes the install and attempts to print you will get a dialog box for the fax machine. Near the top will be a place to enter a fax number. If you enter one then you can select either "Send" or "Print and Send" . Print and Send will do just that-print it locally and send the fax to the number you entered.
- Congratulations! You now have the ability to fax directly from your desktop.
I would be very interested to know if this helps you! Please give me a call, send me an email or a fax.
